Training and targeting ‘super parents’ in Nottingham

Nottingham is spending almost £2 million on training ‘super parents’ to provide new families with advice and support, targeting the most deprived areas of the city. As covered in the Nottingham Post:

“Mums and dads will be paired with a family mentor, who will also support them with issues like breastfeeding and getting babies to sleep – in order to boost the prospects of a new generation of children.”

This support is Big Lottery funded and is being targeted at two deprived areas in Nottingham – St. Ann’s and the Arboretum. It’s an extension of a program already being carried out in the Bulwell and Aspley areas and is part of a larger Big Lottery project won by Nottingham called Small Steps Big Changes, which aims to improve outcomes among 0-3 year olds. As we can see below using the DCLG’s IMD Explorer, both areas are among the top 10% most deprived in England and exist within local pockets of deprivation.
