PHE’s Health Profiles

Public Health England has an excellent open data tool in its Health Profiles which hold a huge amount of health and socioeconomic statistics available at different levels in England. You can use the tool to create interactive maps, charts and tables, compare or benchmark areas against each other, generate pdf document reports and even compare indicators to look for correlations.

The goal is “to help local government and health services make plans to improve local people’s health and reduce health inequalities” and to help meet this aim deprivation data is featured on many of the datasets (although it seems to still be the IMD 2010 for now).

Check out the tool and see what it can do for yourself – below we’ve compared indicators to create some graphs that might suggest correlations between different health issues and deprivation.

Percentage of physically active adults:

Male life expectancy at birth:

Prevalence of opiate or crack use per 1000 population:

PHE also has similar health profiles for Adult Social Care, Cardiovascular Disease, Sexual and Reproductive Health and quite a lot more, making it an invaluable resource for local authorities and organisations.
