Changing deprivation in London – is poverty ‘going suburban’?
The Guardian ran a couple articles in 2012 on work by Alasdair Rae that uses the IMD 2004 through to 2010 and seems to show the pattern of relative poverty in London shifting outwards from the centre by looking at relative changes in ranking. In the main article the paper points out that relative deprivation seems to have increased in areas that saw rioting in August 2011 (although of course this would have happened long before the riots as data for IMD 2010 is mainly from 2008).
In another post on their datablog the guardian put the data up in full, showing the changes in London constituencies, as well as some great maps by Alasdair Rae (his work above).
