Core Cities and deprivation

Here’s another blog post from NLP consulting which looks at the rural-urban divide in deprivation.

The author notes how the Indices of Deprivation focus on urban areas – there are more urban LSOAs than rural ones and they tend to rank as more deprived.

Looking at England’s eight ‘Core Cities’ they point out a trend of “higher levels of deprivation immediately surrounding city centres” and analyse relative shifts in deprivation rankings:
