Cumbria Intelligence Observatory & Indices of Deprivation

The Cumbria Intelligence Observatory has published their analysis of Indices of Deprivation 2015 and what it means for Cumbria.

Some headline stats:

  • Cumbria ranks 86th nationally for overall deprivation (out of 152 upper tier local authorities, where 1 is the most deprived)
  • Cumbria falls within the 57th percentile nationally for overall deprivation (suggesting that 57% of upper tier local authorities are more deprived than Cumbria)
  • There has been no change in Cumbria’s relative level of overall deprivation when compared to other upper tier local authorities since 2010
  • Cumbria falls within the 10% least deprived nationally for crime
  • Of Cumbria’s districts, Barrow-in-Furness has the highest level of overall deprivation, ranking 29th nationally (out of 326 local authorities)
  • Barrow-in-Furness falls within the 10% most deprived nationally for overall deprivation
  • Barrow-in-Furness is the 5th most deprived district nationally for health deprivation & disability
  • Carlisle falls within the 20% most deprived nationally for education, skills and training
  • Copeland is the 2nd most deprived district in the county and falls within the 10% most deprived nationally for health deprivation & disability
  • Eden is the 2nd least deprived district in the county, however, it falls within the 10% most deprived nationally for living environment
  • South Lakeland is the least deprived district in Cumbria
  • A total of 29 Cumbrian LSOAs fall within the 10% most deprived nationally for overall deprivation
  • The most deprived LSOA in the county is located within the ward of Central in Barrow-inFurness
